Its name Bara means big and Imambara means shrine. Imambara refers to the place where Shia Muslims celebrate their various ceremonies such as Muharram. It’s another unpopular name is Asafi Imambara due to its construction being done by Nawab Asaf-Ud-Daula.

It is actually a gate that is situated between Chhota and Bara Imambara. Rumi Darwaza was built by the Nawab Asaf-Ud-Daula in 1784.

 It is about 60 feet tall. The architecture of the Rumi Darwaza is purely in the Awadhi style. There is no entry ticket for seeing it.

8. Chota Imambara


Among the top historical places in Lucknow Chhota Imambara is one of the places that you have to see it. It was built by Muhammad Ali Shah in 1838 who was the third Nawab of Awadh.

Hazaratganj is called the heart of Lucknow because it is situated in the center of the main city. Hazrat Ganj is an old and very popular area of Lucknow.
