Dehradun- The City of Hills 
Dehradun has many tourist places for tourists. I till date visited many places in the Dehradun. Some of the places I visited many times and some of the places only once. But up to date, I have to visit lots of tourist places in Dehradun. Dehradun has a variety of tourist places such as historical buildings, famous temples, waterfalls, caves, museums, zoo, etc. There are many places to visit in Dehradun for couples such as Sahastradhara, Gucchu Pani, FRI, etc.  You will find here reviews of all top10 tourist places in Dehradun. For the religious type tourists, there are many temples in Dehradun such as Tapkeshwar Shiv temple, Buddha temple, etc.

FRI Dehradun
F.R.I.-Forest Research Institute is one of the most famous educational and tourist place in Dehradun, India. It is popular for British era colonial architectural beauty with the lush green campus of the institute spread over in 450 hectares. It is a good attraction for those tourists who are nature lover, students and teachers of Environmental, Botanical and Forestry science and also for Civil and Architecture students.

Sahatradhara waterfall Dehradun
Sahastradhara is a very popular waterfall in the Dehradun. During summer it would be fully filled with tourists and local natural beauty lovers. Sahastradhara is not a single waterfall. Sahastradhara means a collection of thousands of waterfalls. ‘Sahastra’ means thousand and ‘dhara’ means waterfall. It is a naturally beautiful place to spend time with family or friends. Sahastradhara is famous for Sulphur water where tourists come for taking a bath in the waterfall.


For nature lovers, Dehradun and Mussoorie is a good place. One of the famous tourist destinations of the Mussoorie is Kempty fall. Kempty fall is one of the popular waterfall situated near the Mussoorie. Kempty Waterfall is situated at an altitude of 4500 feet above sea level. Kempty waterfall, falling from a mountain about 40 feet high, is the largest of the five springs flowing in the valley of Mussoorie. This waterfall, 15 km from the destination site at the distance of Yamunotri is located on the road.


Jai Maa Daat Kali Manokamna Siddh Peeth Mandir is popularly known as Daat Kali Mandir in Dehradun. Daat Kali Mandir is among the popular temples of the Dehradun. Daat Kali Mandir is dedicated to the Goddess Kali. Goddess Kaali is the avatar of Goddess Shakti. Maa Daat Kali Mandir is considered as the Sidh Peeth temple. Every devotee of Maa Daat Kali comes here to get blessings before starting new work. It is situated outer of the city on the National Highway Number 72 A Dehradun Saharanpur road. Maa Daat Kali is situated in the beautiful forest area near the mountains.

Buddha Temple Dehradun
Buddha Temple of the Dehradun is an eminent example of Tibetan culture and Japanese art. Buddha Temple is situated in a calm and peaceful place far from the city's hustle and bustle. Buddha Temple and Mindrolling Monastery is one of the major tourist’s attractions of Dehradun which attracts not only Indian tourists but also international tourists from various countries such as Japan, China, Nepal, Shri Lanka, Bhutan, Burma, Thailand, Tibet, etc. Tourists come here to see, the World's Largest Stupa of Lord Gautama Buddha and learning how to live in a Buddhist way of life. Here you can see the large Buddhist community. 


Dehradun has lots of tourist places to visit. During summer for one time visiting Robber's cave or Guchu Pani is the best option where you can enjoy a lot. Dehradun local people go there for celebrating the picnic during the summer season. But for outsider tourists, it is the one-time tourist destination. I visited this place only two times during the summers. Robber's cave is actually a river cave where you can see the small waterfalls also.


Shri Prakasheshwar Mahadev Mandir is a temple of Hindu Lord Shiva which is located on the Dehradun-Mussoorie Road in Uttarakhand and popularly known as Shiv Mandir on Mussoorie road. This Shiv temple have Sphatik Shivling of Lord Shiva. There are many Shiv Mandir in Dehradun but it is a special one because it is a private temple owned by an unknown owner. Due to private ownership of this Shiv temple, it is one of the visiting places in Dehradun for tourists. The temple is full of devotees during Hindu festival Shivratri and in Sawan months.


Tapkeshwar Mahadev Mandir is the most famous Lord Shiva's temple of Dehradun. It is popular by various names as Tapkeshwer Dham, Tapkeshwer mandir, and Tapkeshwer temple. Tapkeshwar Shiv temple is a natural cave which is situated near the Tons River. This cave is also famous as 'Dron Cave' because Guru Dronacharya did 'Tapasya' here. There is a Swayambhu Shivling inside the cave on which water drop fall naturally and regularly. That’s why this Shiv temple called as Tapkeshwar. Around the temple, greenery, river, and springs make this place naturally beautiful.


There were lots of great saints in India who worked for society and country during their lifetime and created a system for their followers to work for the welfare of society and country. Shri Guru Ram Rai was the great saint who worked their whole life for the human, society, and country. Today we popularly know them by various names such as Jhanda Sahib, Jhande Ji, Baba Ram Rai and the founder of Dehradun. Dehradun was the ‘karmbhoomi’ of Shri Guru Ram Rai where the rest of life working for human and social welfare. He organizing popular Jhanda Mela and gave the message of blessing, harmony, goodwill and mutual brotherhood. Interestingly, if the flag was not present today, then perhaps Dehradun would not have happened.


One of the popular fairs of the Northern India is the Flag Fair of Dehradun which is more popularly as Jhanda Mela or Jhande Ji ka Mela. This Jhanda Mela starts on the fifth day of Chaitra (the fifth day from the Holi) which is the birthday of Shri Guru Ram Rai Ji. Other than being the birthday of Guru Ram Rai, it is the day he came to Dehradun in 1676 AD. So this flag hoisting ceremony is celebrated at Guru Ram Rai Darbar Sahib, Jhanda Bazar in Dehradun by his large number of devotees to remember Shri Guru Ram Rai Ji every year.


The famous Char Siddhs of Dehradun situated in the corners of Dehradun in each direction. All Siddh Peeths situated in very calm and naturally beautiful places near the river or forest. After visiting these places you will feel relax and peace in mind. These four Siddh Peeths very famous among the Dehradun and nearby cities devotees. The famous Char Siddhs comprises four temples. Maa Bala Sundari Temple Dehradun
Hindu Goddess Maa Vaishno Devi’s ‘Baal Roop’ called as Maa Bala Sundari. There are lots of temples of Maa Bala Sundari Devi in India and the most famous Maa Bala Sundari Mandir is situated in Tirlokpur, Himachal Pradesh. One of the popular temples of Maa Bala Sundari is situated at Sudhowala in Dehradun. This temple is situated inside the forest which is approximately 3.5 km from Sudhowala in South-West direction.


Santala Devi Mandir is a very popular and ancient hilltop temple of Dehradun. The temple is also famous as Santora Devi temple among the devotees. The Santala Devi temple is situated in the village Jahariwala. Temple is situated at the hilltop and at the bottom of the hill there is a very beautiful river Nun which makes it a very beautiful location for the tourist who comes to visit this temple. Santala Devi temple is at about 2083 m height. There are other Gods statues also in the Santala Devi Temple such as Gauri Sankar Statues, Lord Hanuman, Lord Shani Dev, Maa Kali, etc.


Shri Balaji Dham- Shri Siddh Hanuman Mandir is situated at national highway 72, Jhajra, Dehradun, Uttarakhand. This temple was established by Baba Ram Kishan Das Barfani in Jhajra in 1957. Balaji is a very famous name of Hindu God Hanuman. Balaji name is famous in north India. Balaji means Baal Hanuman or childhood form of Lord Hanuman.  Most famous Balaji Mandir is Mehandipur Balaji Mandir in Dausa, Rajasthan. Shri Balaji Dham temple is established with the same theme of the Mehandipur Balaji Mandir. Prayer of Balaji and worship methods for the Balaji is same as in Mehandipur Balaji Mandir.

Regional Science City is developed by the Uttarakhand State Council for Science & Technology (UCOST) and National Council for Science Museum (NCSM).The aim of Aanchalik Vigyan Kendra is to popularizing the science & technology and scientific knowledge among the students and common people. Whole year students and common peoples visit the Regional Science city Dehradun. There are lots of functions and exhibitions organized during special occasions such as Science day, Earth day, etc.

History of Regional Science Centre, Dehradun

Dehradun the capital of Uttarakhand gets its first Science city on 3rd February 2016. It was inaugurated by that time CM Shri Harish Rawat Ji. On the second anniversary of the Regional Science city of Dehradun in February 2018, Governor of Uttarakhand inaugurated the Biodiversity Park in the Vigyan Dham.

Science center Dehradun infrastructure is a very modern look and it looks so good from the distance. Regional Science city is a very interesting place for science students and curious peoples so for learning many things at one place it is the best option. At the ground floor, you can see all the basics and fundamental science models. At the first floor, you can see the models of how the Himalaya and other mountains formed.

In the Park, you can see the various science models and Dinosaur models. Some of the models such as Gravity Chair, Birding Cage, Musical Bar, Human eye model, Perspective House, etc. You can see Uttarakhand traditional musical instruments also here.

Timing of Regional Science Centre, Dehradun

Dehradun Regional Science city opens daily in the morning at 10:00 am and closes in the evening at 05:00 pm. In summer it will be better to go early morning. But during winter you can go in the afternoon time because it opens after 10:00 am only. The Lunchtime of the Regional Science city is from 01:30 pm to 02:00 pm.

If you go there in the evening you can miss the Taramandal or 3D show. Daily four Taramandal and 3D shows are organized by the Regional Science city Dehradun for the visitors. The timing of Taramandal show starts from 11:30 am and last show at 03:30 pm. The 3D shows start from at 12:00 pm and last show at 04:00 pm. There is one hour gap between each show.

Visiting Duration of Regional Science Centre, Dehradun

You will completely see all the things and shows within 3-4 hours. You don't miss the Taramandal and 3D show. It is good for kids and students also. You can play and enjoy at the science and Dinosaurs park also. There are many Jhoolas for the kids.

Ticket Price of Regional Science Centre, Dehradun

There is an entry ticket for the Regional Science City. For the single student or public, it will be Rupees 110/- including entry fee, Taramandal, and science 3D show. For the group of students and public persons, there is a discount on the entry ticket charge.

Summer Camp at Regional Science City, Dehradun

Regional Science City every year organizes the summer camp for the students of class 6th to 12th where they can learn Robotics, Electronics, Crafts & Scientific Toy making, and Biological Science. The summer camp organized during the month of May and June every year.

How to Reach Regional Science City, Dehradun

It is around 14 km far from the Dehradun railway station and 12 km from the ISBT. There is no direct city bus or Vikram for the Vigyan Dhaam. You have to book a private taxi or auto for the Science city. For reaching to Science city own vehicle will be the best option. If you come by city bus then the bus will drop you at Shri Balaji Dham at Chakarata road from there Regional science city is approx. 2 km far away. You can walk on foot or take an auto from there.

  • There is no food court inside or outside of the campus of the Regional Science city. So you must carry some foodstuff or snacks with you for eating during a relaxing time.
  • For a one-time visit Science city Dehradun is good especially for kids. It is a good place for visiting with family and enjoying there.
  • I will recommend visiting the Science city on weekends. There will be a good crowd in the Regional Science Centre Dehradun on Sunday and Saturday.
